The charms of Normandy

Chambre2 Auberge De La Source A Christophe Bielsa

By Anne Lefèvre

Fed up with Parisian urbanism? Go for the bucolic option and drive out to Normandy, 4 kms from Honfleur, to the lovely Auberge de la Source… Barneville –La-Bertran, an ode to apple orchards and lush vegetation where you can chill in total intimacy.

15 rooms and 1 suite, dispersed in three delightful small houses including a half-timber longère elongated building and a house in red brick, surrounding a beautiful garden, with basins, beautiful flower beds and deck chairs to take a nice nap, rocked by trickling water. Far from ultra contemporary design that is not always very warm, the owners of l’Auberge have taken the opposite approach of a refined and cozy decor.

We like the bucolic chic of the rooms with wooden beam, light wood furniture, oak bed boards and curtains in red gingham.

Cocooning, cocooning… That can be extended by a divine facial… with apple or milky massages and scrubs… (from 45 to 110 € depending on the duration)… The Normandy way of life !

For A types, there is lots to choose from: bikes lent by the hotel to wheel on small paths surrounded by green pastures, an outing to Honfleur to stroll around the harbor or admire the super canvases of the Musée Eugène Boudin

At nightfall, hurry home to savor what chef Yanick Bernouin has prepared for dinner : chicken on a spit, pré-salé lamb, sole meunière with fork mashed potatoes … a unique menu for 38€ that changes every day, with starter, dish, cheese and dessert. A great way to taste all the savory local specialties.

For extra cool attitude, you can choose a 2 day Charm and Relaxation formula, with nights in a double, room, breakfasts- buffet, dinner each night (drinks not included) and a 50’  aromatic massage of your choice … for 360 € per person.

Rooms from 115 € to 240 € - Breakfast: 14 € - Free Parking

L’Auberge de la Source (member of Châteaux & Hôtels Collection)

The restaurant is open every night and at lunch, on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
