Fashion Icons
Spoiler: you’re bound to fall in love with this new must-see exhibition unveiling 65 silhouettes signed by the most eminent names in fashion, revealed through a sumptuous stroll inside the Musée du Louvre.
On the agenda for this true delight: the finest creations from Atelier Versace, pieces signed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, as well as works by Iris van Herpen, Alexander McQueen, and Givenchy. We especially love the sublime red and ermine dress crafted by Galliano for the Fall-Winter 2004 collection of Maison Dior, whose shimmering red and gold tones blend into the decor. But our absolute favorite is the metal corset by Mugler, created in 1995, a true armor worn by… Beyoncé and later Céline Dion!
A Breathtaking Experience
Designed as a promenade opening a dialogue between fashion and art, Art and fashion: statement pieces is not confined to a single temporary room. The most beautiful haute couture dresses of the 20th and 21st centuries are displayed in the exhibition halls dedicated to European art objects as well as in the lavishly renovated apartments of Napoleon III. The fashion pieces interact with the art objects housed in their showcases: gold answers gold, surreal textures seem to extend tapestries, and details as delicate as they are opulent blend perfectly with antique jewelry gleaming under spotlights.
The creations are showcased on mirrored pedestals, whose reflections let us appreciate the variety of textures, light effects, and the successive layers of the designers’ craftsmanship. The result? An absolutely unique exhibition not to be missed.
Louvre Couture, Art and fashion: statement pieces. Musée du Louvre, Paris 1er. Until July 21, 2025.
