Monocle is the go-to English magazine for entrepreneurs, delivering top-tier recommendations on lifestyle, culture, and business worldwide. Founded by the highly influential journalist Tyler Brûlé, this global media powerhouse has just opened its latest café/press/concept store in the heart of Paris on Rue Bachaumont—the ultimate hotspot for Parisian cool. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is Monocle?
Sticking to an old-school approach to journalism, Monocle has remained exclusively print-based, with a 24/7 digital radio station and—remarkably—zero social media presence. Thriving through word-of-mouth success, Monocle continues its global expansion with offices worldwide, international conferences, podcasts, cafés, and boutiques in London, Zurich, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Toronto, alongside its publishing house and curated product line.
Now, Monocle unveils its brand-new eclectic concept store in Paris’s 2nd arrondissement—a beautifully designed wooden haven blending a trendy coffee shop, an international magazine kiosk, and a high-end boutique. Shopping becomes indulgent, reading turns stylish, and coffee breaks feel fashion-forward. Hidden at the back? A secret radio booth where journalists cover Parisian events. Bonus: a meeting room available for hourly rental.
Food & Drinks
On the sunlit terrace or inside the chic setting designed by Kann Design, guests can enjoy a latte and freshly baked pastries for breakfast, including a must-try cinnamon roll (€4.50). Lunch options include gourmet quiches (€7), an incredible grilled cheese (€9.50), vegetarian focaccia sandwiches (€11), and a fluffy Japanese cheesecake (€8). Our top pick? The standout vegan salad with kale, carrots, chickpeas, and squash (€9).
Surprisingly, the concept store also welcomes guests in the evening, offering a refined selection of wines (€8-9.50 per glass) and cocktails (€10-15), accompanied by cheese (€12) and charcuterie boards (€12).
Shopping at Monocle
Nestled in a quieter corner away from the lively café crowd, the boutique is a treasure trove of unisex fashion, lifestyle objects, home décor, books, and accessories. Exclusive French brands like Arpin, Bic, Charvet, Papier Tigre, Savon de Marseille, and Tolix are featured in the Parisian store.
Must-haves include Japanese-inspired scented candles (€80), sleek designer lamps (€270), and “Bon appétit” kitchen towels (€22). Browse through Monocle’s travel guides (€65), admire the green ceramic tableware (€70), and fall for the 100% cotton Le Minor x Monocle striped sweaters (€120) or the hand-embroidered brooches from Macon & Lesquoy (€25-45).
Open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM.
