The place
It’s the new address that is creating the buzz on Rue de Bretagne. Oopen by Jean Phi, figurehead of the Marais and owner La Perle, this coffee-shop serves New York style must every day starting at 8am. Autre singularité, le lieu et sa terrasse chauffée deviennent un incroyable spot apéro chaque soir.
After a first Made in Oberkampf Café Foufou, impulsed by visionary Jean Phi (La Perle, Au_Top, that’s him), a second opus inspired by Californian coffee shops is creating the buzz on Rue de Bretagne. Cool service, wild decor signed Anne-Sophie Martorana, mirror ceiling, a big fave of instagrammers and healthy comfort food fans.
To be noted also: starting at 6pm, the terrace becomes the coolest spot of the district while the counter morphis into a bar of natural wines with stylish plates to nibble on: sardine and Petrossian tarama, pastrami, comté cheese and mini veggie burgers (€12 - €14).
On the programme of gourmet treats
Here, brunch is a religion since it is served from 8am to 6pm along with a special menu. Just choose your freshly squeezed juice (€6.50) between the “healthy glow” of orange-carrot, the detox of celery-cucumber-apple-ginger or a nice fresh orange juice (€4.50).
Coffee lovers are delighted by the choice between the Chemex filter (€8 for 2), the incredible cappuccinos and lattes (vegetal milk version also…) and a perfect espresso (€2.50).
À la carte: avocado or beet on toast, with or without gluten, scones, cake of the day (€5), fluffy pancakes with fresh fruits and maple syrup (9.50), French toast (€9,50), egg and salmon (€9.90) or bagels (€9.90). For twigs on a diet: chia pudding with coconut milk (€6), white omelet, sparkling kéfir (€6) and bowl of the day (€12).
The added plus
The amusing café tableware, featuring exclusive pieces made by artisans in Tel Aviv, is also for sale... A must for gifts: cactus jars with face shapes (€38), cups (€2.90) as well as pink and blue plates with amazing details (starting at €25), ultra LOL vases shaped like buttocks or a penis.
Other singularity: a selection of pink t-shirts with “café foufou depuis toujours” in gold lettering (€35) and terrific pink bandana bags (€50) signed Le Bouclard, the made in Marais streetwear artisan brands are wild about.
