Historically revolutionary, now a queer hub where multicolored flags flirt with high-end fashion and decor boutiques, the Hôtel de Ville district has become a favorite spot for cool Parisians who love iconic restaurants with stunning views, trendy grocery stores with products from around the world, sexy cocktail bars, small fashion museums, and ultra-hip concept stores for fashion or crafts. Needless to say, it was a tough choice to narrow down our favorite addresses...
La Table Cachée
This is Paris' best-hidden table, totally impossible to find unless you know it exists since it’s tucked… behind the tights section at the BHV, on the 5th floor! This unlikely Michelin-recommended restaurant offers a sophisticated menu crafted by none other than the MOF and Michelin-starred chef Michel Roth himself! In the kitchen every day? The charming and talented chef Valentin Krawczyk. With an unbeatable view of Hôtel de Ville, a cozy high-up terrace in full sun, and fresh, colorful plates: Jewish-style poivrade artichokes with confit egg yolks, supreme of poultry with crispy shallots, rice pudding... All served in a chic room adorned with green and gold tones. A major crush on the tableware, wallpaper, and chairs? All elements of the restaurant are available in the BHV MARAIS' decor section, so you can recreate this cozy atmosphere at home.
La Table Cachée by Michel Roth - BHV MARAIS, 55 rue de la Verrerie, Paris 4th. Reservations at 01 42 74 91 86 or by clicking on this link. Lunch menu (starter, main course, dessert) 36€. Signature chef’s menu 49€. Open Tuesday to Saturday, lunch and dinner.
Fondation Azzedine Alaïa
At the heart of the district lies the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa, with its 32,000 pieces of high-fashion collections including Poiret, Chanel, Balenciaga, Yamamoto, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Margiela, Courrèges, and Cardin. The hall under the beautiful glass roof is dedicated to incredible exhibitions exploring the relationship between Alaïa and his great artist friends. Currently, after wrapping up its exhibition on the artists Alaïa and Kuramata, the Fondation is opening on March 3rd Azzedine Alaïa - Thierry Mugler 1980/1990: Two Decades of Artistic Convergence. Their unwavering mutual friendship and artistic support have brought us their incredible collections, including 70 dresses featured in the exhibit.
Fondation Azzedine Alaïa, 18 rue de la Verrerie, Paris 4th. Open daily from 11am to 8pm.
Le Bar de Boubalé
The charming bar at the Hôtel Grand Mazarin (dating-friendly ++) invites you to sip high-quality signature cocktails before heading to Boubalé for an Israeli feast by Assaf Granit (Kapara, Shabour, Tékés…). At the bar, in a highly colorful, Wes Anderson-compatible setting, enjoy signature cocktails such as Chouchou (nigori sake, pomegranate, red cabbage, sparkling wine, 15€), Sababoush (boukha, eggplant, oregano, 16€), or Basta (Stoli vodka, amba, apricot, pear, sesame, 17€), accompanied by Tel Aviv-style snacks: white tarama trio, pink, with sea urchin coral and toasted challah (23€) or fried corn ribs with aioli, pimentón, and lime (16€).
Le Bar de Boubalé, 17 rue de la Verrerie, Paris 4th. Open daily from 5pm to 2am.
Palace Callas
Palace Callas is THE vintage store where all the Parisian it-girls go to find stunning pieces between photoshoots, surrounded by design furniture and treasures. Here, you'll find ultra-trendy designer pieces selected with care, even rare archived items from Jean Paul Gaultier, Alaïa, Dior, Rick Owens... The selections are mind-blowing! A particularly sharp fashion temple, especially since the boutique’s creators also style for photoshoots, which you can follow on Instagram!
Palace Callas, 16 rue du Pont Louis-Philippe, Paris 4th. Open Friday and Monday from 12:30pm to 6:30pm, Saturday from 1pm to 6:30pm.
La Baguette du Relais
Of course, we can’t forget Le Relais de Venise, the gourmet institution and social hotspot that serves a unique menu to its regular clientele, passed down from generation to generation: green salad with walnuts, sirloin steak, and homemade fries with their famous secret sauce. At the Marais street food annex, the iconic American sandwich (a foodporn curiosity that consists of putting fries in bread) is given a Parisian twist with a baguette stuffed with meat, fries, and the famous sauce (15€, but what a meal!). You can even order a double portion of meat for the true carnivores, as well as different baguette options (charcoal baguette for better digestion or gluten-free).
La Baguette du Relais, 10 rue des Archives, Paris 4th. 01 40 09 72 11. Open Monday to Thursday from 12pm to 3pm and 6pm to 10pm, Friday to Sunday from 12pm to 10pm.
His
In Japan, HIS is a highly regarded travel agency that helps people discover the Land of the Rising Sun through physical addresses offering the best Japanese products. In a concept-store style, this "stopover" designed by architect Goliath Dyèvre, located near the Hôtel de Ville, resembles a fine grocery store with its sake wall, treasures of tea, sauces, rice, seasonings, ceramics, decor items, and accessories! Keep an eye on their Instagram for public workshops and events.
HIS Paris, 2 rue du Renard, Paris 4th. Open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 7:30pm.
La Perlerie 22
Here’s the best place to shop for everything you need to make your own charm jewelry. In this Marais boutique, the walls are covered with beads, pendants, clasps, rings, chains—everything you need to create any trinket. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice on assembling your creation and buying the right materials. Our tip: don’t forget to bring two pliers, one of which should be cutting, as it will be difficult to assemble your jewelry without them!
La Perlerie 22, 22 rue du Temple, Paris 4th. Open Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm and Saturday from 12pm to 7pm.
Benoit
Do you know the only Michelin-starred bistro in France? Just steps from the Hôtel de Ville, Benoit has delighted fine palates since 1912 with its bourgeois specialties, now executed to perfection by Kelly Jolivet from the Ducasse team: the best snails in Paris (18€), pâté en croûte (28€), exquisite duck foie gras with Parisian brioche (32€)… All served with impeccable service in a classically Parisian setting.
Benoit, 20 rue Saint-Martin, Paris 4th. 01 42 72 25. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
MEP
At the editorial office, we love the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, located in a former mansion near the Seine. The exhibitions, spread over three floors, never disappoint. The best part? A beautiful bookstore, a shop where you’ll want to buy everything, an in-house coffee shop, and even workshops for kids! Currently, you can admire a photo exhibition by the famous Dennis Morris, as well as a series of photos on the silence of Taiwanese artist Chia Huang and a video installation by artist Amandine Kuhlmann, showcasing her hyper-sexualized bimbo alter ego. Only bangers...
MEP, 5/7 rue de Fourcy, Paris 4th. Open Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 8pm, Thursday from 11am to 10pm, and weekends from 10am to 8pm.
Eataly
Do we still need to introduce Eataly? The sexiest Italian food concept in Paris continues to surprise us. Of course, there’s the large market where you can stock up on pasta, sauces, charcuterie, chinotto, cheeses, and olive oils galore. But it would be a shame not to check out the wine cellar, which offers the largest selection of Italian wines, not to mention the Osteria del Vino restaurant promoting exquisite regional specialties, or the Bar Torino for a Campari Spritz like in Rome. Also cool: the gargantuan Sunday brunch, as well as highly popular cooking classes to learn how to make fresh pasta, lasagna, and even your own homemade pizza. A must!
Eataly, 37 rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie, Paris 4th. Open Sunday to Thursday from 10am to 10:30pm, Friday and Saturday until 11:30pm.
Fleux
Its five stores have taken over rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie. Furniture, lighting, tableware, candles— all the latest trends are here to shop at Fleux! Full of surprises, these shops are all located close together on this little Marais street, perfect for an ultra-efficient shopping spree. Each store has its own theme: one is dedicated to quirky and fun objects, another to urban lifestyle, another to craft and nature, another to furniture and lighting, and the last one for kids and baby items. The perfect place to find a last-minute gift or turn your living room into a colorful decor moodboard worthy of Danish influencers.
Fleux, rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie, Paris 4th. Open Monday to Thursday from 10:45am to 8:30pm, Friday from 10:45am to 8:45pm, Saturday from 10:30am to 8:45pm, and Sunday from 10:45am to 8:30pm.
Guillaume Delesse - Florist
We go to get flowers from Guillaume Delesse in this marble haven filled with greenery. Located in the former boutique of the Lambert Bayard house, Guillaume shares his love of flowers by offering valuable tips on plant care. He also offers pre-made or customizable bouquets for all types of interiors, available for daily delivery.
Guillaume Delesse, 6 rue du Renard, Paris 4th, France, Tuesday to Saturday from 10:30am to 8:30pm, and Sunday from 9am to 8pm.
Izrael
Yes, real grocery stores still exist in Paris! Izrael is the temple of spices and old-school condiments, where you can also find exotic products and even rare liquors. It's a pleasure to wander around this small shop and buy quality products in bulk, bags, or jars at affordable prices. We’re obsessed with the dates, nougats, fruit pastes, and candied fruits. Bonus: feel free to ask for seasoning tips and ideas for your homemade meals.
Izrael, 30 rue François Miron, 75004 Paris, open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 6:30pm.
