A matcha latte here, a green cookie there, all the way to fully equipping their homes with the necessary tools. Cultivated in Japan, this precious powdered green tea, excellent for health, has become so trendy that mono-obsessed spots have bloomed all over Paris. Here's a spotlight on our 5 favorite places.

The most ephemeral: Café Kitsuné Verbois

Just in time for the upcoming fashion week, Café Kitsuné on Rue du Vertbois is decked out in Japanese-inspired decor until October 6th with a 100% matcha-themed pop-up. Think straw mat tatamis, kakemonos, and woodwork for an Instagram-worthy setup.

What we love to order: For drinks, go for the spectacular Strawberry Matcha Latte worthy of a manga, a Rose Lychee Matcha, a Matcha Coconut Water, or the surprising Matcha Bergamot Fizz (€6). Pair it with matcha treats like the Japanese roll cake (€7), the chiffon cake (€6), the divine flan (€7), or a coconut-matcha madeleine to die for (€5).

The extra touch: For the occasion, Café Kitsuné is (finally!) selling its ceremonial-grade matcha from Kagoshima, with a very mild, non-bitter flavor (€35 per box).

The trendiest: Matcha Social Club

If, like us, you're a true matcha addict, you couldn’t have missed this hotspot dedicated to Japanese tea, with an impressive selection of matcha-based recipes served in a brutalist space where grey walls are only disrupted by the green of the precious tea displayed in hyper-graphic boxes climbing up the wall.

What we love to order: The shop offers real frozen creations, using top-quality matcha sourced directly from Uji, in the Kyoto province. It’s no risk to call it the best iced matcha latte in Paris (€6.80), unless you opt for the more surprising recipes like the iced matcha latte with mango puree (€6.80). Also delicious: the ice cream (€4.90). Continue the matcha bliss at home with their matcha tea box (€20).

The extra touch: You’ll love the sexy new addition, the Blue Vanilla Matcha Latte with blue tea, vanilla, and your choice of milk (€5.50).

Matcha Social Club, 39 Rue des Petits Champs, Paris 1st. Open daily from 10 AM to 8:30 PM. +33 9 54 09 25 62.

The ultimate coffee shop: Umami Matcha Café

The first French spot dedicated to matcha tea, this Nippon-inspired coffee shop now has a little sibling in the 17th arrondissement, focused on “to-go” food. They celebrate Coutume coffee and matcha lattes/frappés in all forms, but it's also a place to enjoy lunch and brunch with a hyper-varied and colorful menu.

What we love to order: We visit Umami to try all their matcha-centric drinks like the matcha cappuccino (€5), the matcha Black Umami with dark chocolate (€6), the matcha cortado topped with foamed milk (€4), or the matcha shot for a superfood health boost (€3). For lunch, indulge in udon, chirashi, and donburi (between €17 and €19). Stay on theme with a matcha cheesecake (€8), a matcha tiramisu with fresh strawberries (€7.50), or a matcha and white chocolate marble cake (€4).

The extra touch: A corner filled with the best Japanese artisanal groceries (rare yuzu juice, black garlic from Aomori, sesame paste, rare sakes…).

The most kawaii: Shodai Matcha

At Shodai, iced matcha drinks come in all forms, delighting fans of kawaii culture. The decor of its three Parisian locations satisfies all the genre’s codes, from abundant fake pink sakura flowers to light woodwork, discreet corners, and manga references.

What we love to order: A matcha latte topped with a cloud of cream and a Hello Kitty kitten (€7.50), the indulgent version with red beans (€7.50), a bubble tea with taro puree and tapioca pearls (€7.50), or a Smoothie Float with yuzu, honey, and matcha ice cream, a little bomb (€8.50). For a snack: the matcha and pecan mille-crêpes (€7.80), the chiffon cake with tapioca pearls (€7.80), or the bingsu, an airy shaved ice dessert with red beans and matcha ice cream (€11.80).

The extra touch: The more adventurous will try a specialty trending from Tokyo to Seoul, the yuzu matcha fizz (€7.80). A quirky, fizzy curiosity to test like the pros.

The most Y2K: Matcha Ochaya

Near Place de la République, this new Gen Z hangout is as enchanting as it gets, ticking all the TikTok-driven boxes (and therefore, our teens'). From the flower-covered walls to the saturated color scheme, nitrogen-smoked desserts, and too-cute packaging, it's a feast for Insta stories. Love it or hate it!

What we love to order: Here, matcha competes with sakura (cherry blossom) flavor, giving desserts an adorable candy pink hue. But to stay on theme, order a frappé matcha latte with whipped cream (€7), a matcha latte with taro puree and tapioca pearls (€7.50), or a matcha latte with red beans (€7.80). Pair it with matcha and red bean rolled crepes (€7.80) or a sublime Italian-style matcha/sakura ice cream cone.

The extra touch: A rarity in Paris, try the dango, a popular Asian dessert consisting of soft mochi balls on a skewer, dipped into your iced latte for the ultimate treat.
